8/10
SYNOPSIS: Cruella is an origin story about one of the most notable villans in Disney history, Cruella de Vil (101 Dalmations). A troubled, genius child Estella (later becomes Cruella and played by Emma Stone) is trying to find her place in the world with fashion being her obsession. Estella is hired by one of the top fashion designers in the city, The Baroness (Emma Thompson), where her dream of working in the fashion industry finally comes true. However, the evil side of Estella (Cruella) has other plans and may find herself in-too-deep with her newfound lifestyle.
RATED: PG-13 | Thematic Elements, Some Violence
AGENDAS: Cruella wreaks of the Disney/Hollywood assault on our youth with the glorifying of alcohol, mischief, evil and promiscuity. The movie is dark and may be a bad example to developing teens (especially young girls). We suggest not bringing your child to this if they’re under 15. The film also featured a feminized drag queen like male. Although the movie was good, it sends a terrible message to young girls.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: None to report.
OFA REVIEW: Putting the agendas aside, Cruella was very enjoyable and is a movie you could watch over and over again. The film’s tone and pace were perfect and there never seemed to be a dull moment. Emma Stone and Emma Thompson were fantastic and the supporting cast were perfectly recruited. The sinister theme of the movie worked well and you’ll find yourself cracking a smile or laughing multiple times. With that being said, see agendas below.
