7.5/10
SYNOPSIS: The Suicide Squad returns as a group of superhero rejects are teamed together to help save the world and destroy a powerful monster project called Project Starfish. Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone), Blackguard, Javelin and the infamous Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) are tasked with the mission which is overseen by none other than Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Does the team have what it takes to complete the mission? Or will their dysfunction get the best of them?
RATED: R | Drug Use, Brief Graphic Nudity, Language Throughout, Some Sexual References, Strong Violence and Gore
AGENDAS: I would not take your kids, teens, wife, mom, grandparents to this movie. It was by far one of the most gory, graphic movies I’ve ever seen. I left the theater with a sense of darkness in my soul. Use your imagination on the different ways to die and I promise this movie covers it. There was also some blasphemous scenes where the Lord’s name in vein were used. Prepared to be desensitized.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: Full frontal of a man’s genitalia, quick glance at a woman’s breasts.
OFA REVIEW: The pervert James Gunn seems to be fully uncanceled as the DC movie universe (Warner Bros.) welcomes the Marvel director/producer to its team. Gunn is best known for his work on popular films like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.
From the start of the movie, you can tell this has a different feel than any of the other DC movies before it. In fact, this is one of the movie’s best attributes. It felt fresh and current. On paper, the cast doesn’t seem like much, but their chemistry on screen fit together very well. This was also one of Idris Elba’s better performances of his career. TSS was entertaining enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen and the plot was slightly above average. The movie’s creativity cinematically was the best I’ve seen in a DC film. Maybe Warner Bros. should steal more talent from Marvel and never let Zack Snyder touch one of their movies again? That all being said, see the “Agendas” section below.
