OFA REVIEW: I’ll start with this, this movie BLEW Black Widow (2021) out of the water! Marvel’s latest superhero to hit the big screen, Shang-Chi, was a pleasant surprise and enjoyable ride throughout. The film did follow similar formulas from previous Marvel movies (you’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it), however it incredibly still felt original. The casting was perfect with Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) having a breakout performance.
With every great movie comes a great soundtrack. Shang-Chi did not disappoint in this area. After all, what would Star Wars, Home Alone, and Indiana Jones be without John Williams? In addition to the superb soundtrack, Shang-Chi’s plot was intriguing and genuine, though the movie was a bit too long (could have been about 20 min shorter). The payoff at the end was spectacular, but I did feel like the length of the movie watered it down just a bit.
Shang-Chi is definitely worth emptying out your savings at the theaters. Grab your popcorn, enjoy the Marvel cameos, and be sure to stick around after the credits for TWO post credit scenes!
