David’s FULL REVIEW
9/10
RT SYNOPSIS: The film explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis's life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

DAVID’S REVIEW: Let me start by saying, I am not a fan of Elvis or his music. I do recognize his greatness and contribution to music. I went into this movie with zero expectations and, honestly, wasn’t excited about spending 3 hours in the theater. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. Elvis was fascinating, powerful, fun and gripping. I left the theater as a believer in Elvis, his music and the music industry in general.
There was never a dull moment throughout Elvis, which is rarely seen in a movie with a runtime of 2 hours and 49 minutes. The pace was perfect and energetic. Tom Hanks was fantastic in his role as Elvis Presley’s agent Colonel Tom Parker. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing Austin Butler, who played Elvis, in many future films. Butler absolutely nailed his role as Elvis. We’ll probably see an Oscar nomination, if not, a win for Butler and/or Hanks. Whenever you can watch a movie and not think about the actors, but only about the character they’re playing - you know the acting is special. Hanks and Butler couldn’t have done a better job.
The acting, pace of the movie, unique cinematography and overall feel of the movie earned it my highest rated movie to date and slightly edging out Top Gun. Sorry Maverick.
