RT SYNOPSIS: In the new action comedy from DreamWorks Animation, based on the New York Times best-selling book series, a crackerjack criminal crew of animal outlaws are about to attempt their most challenging con yet--becoming model citizens. Never have there been five friends as infamous as The Bad Guys--dashing pickpocket Mr. Wolf (Academy Award® winner Sam Rockwell, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), seen-it-all safecracker Mr. Snake (Marc Maron, GLOW), chill master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson, Hot Tub Time Machine franchise), short-fused "muscle" Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos, In the Heights) and sharp-tongued expert hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina, Crazy Rich Asians), aka "Webs."
But when, after years of countless heists and being the world's most-wanted villains, the gang is finally caught, Mr. Wolf brokers a deal (that he has no intention of keeping) to save them all from prison: The Bad Guys will go good. Under the tutelage of their mentor Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade, Paddington 2), an arrogant (but adorable!) guinea pig, The Bad Guys set out to fool the world that they've been transformed. Along the way, though, Mr. Wolf begins to suspect that doing good for real may give him what he’s always secretly longed for: acceptance. So when a new villain threatens the city, can Mr. Wolf persuade the rest of the gang to become... The Good Guys?

Unbearable weight of massive talent (2022)

David’s REVIEW
David’s FULL REVIEW
8.5/10
RT SYNOPSIS: Nicolas Cage stars as... Nick Cage in the action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a dangerous superfan (Pedro Pascal). Things take a wildly unexpected turn when Cage is recruited by a CIA operative (Tiffany Haddish) and forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones. With a career built for this very moment, the seminal award-winning actor must take on the role of a lifetime: Nick Cage.
RATED: R | Violence, Drug Use, Some Sexual References, Language Throughout
AGENDAS: 9-10 uses of religious profanity throughout the movie (“Jesus” “Jesus Christ”)
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: No nudity. A brief sexual reference about oral sex and intercourse with married characters.
DAVID’S REVIEW: The word that best describes this film…brilliant. With a movie industry, where originality has become scarce, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was refreshing with Nicolas Cage playing a fictional version of himself. Although the movie isn’t based on a true story, you get to know the real Nick Cage as he battles his internal demons and mental struggles with life as a Hollywood actor. This was the movie’s strength.
UWMT was hilarious. The humor was not forced and came naturally. One of the best aspects of the film was Pedro Pascal who played Javi Gutierrez - a Nick Cage fanboy, Cartel member who was obsessed with Cage and the life of acting. Surprisingly, both Cage and Pascal’s chemistry worked extremely well.
The plot development and execution was on point for three-fourth’s of the way through the movie. This is the only reason why I didn’t score it higher. After the climax, the payoff didn’t feel as grand as the setup especially after the cheap plot twist, however I still felt satisfied leaving the theater. Welcome back, Nicolas Cage! Not that you ever left ;)

David’s FULL REVIEW
5.5/10
RT SYNOPSIS: The world's favorite blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
RATED: PG | Rude Humor, Mild Language, Action, Some Violence
AGENDAS: Frequent alcohol consumption. References to genitalia that adults and teens will catch, but younger children might not. Multiple fake uses of profanity that could be harmful to children (example: “Piece of shitake mushrooms”). One of the male characters (Dr. Robotnik’s assistant) had a strong, seemingly romantic like infatuation with another male character (Dr. Robotnik - played by Jim Carrey).
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: None.
DAVID’S REVIEW: Being a huge fan of the franchise, since playing the Sonic video game on my Sega Genesis in the 90s, I really wanted to like Sonic 2. However, I found myself not being able to wait until the movie was over.
After the first Sonic movie pleasantly surprised average movie goers, and Sega fanboys, Sonic 2 doubled down on its predecessor’s formula with even more over-the-top attempts at humor and “epic” scenes. Unfortunately, it was too much. The slapstick humor (writing) was so forced, that virtually none of the packed theater (including myself) often laughed. Scenes that were supposed to be funny were cringe and fell flat. You might even find yourself getting annoyed at times.
I get what the writers were trying to do, but you don’t have to treat the audience like we’re all 2nd graders. And that’s just who this movie was made for - 7 year old boys. The forced humor was so distracting, the plot was an afterthought. Sonic 2 drowned itself in its own foolery. The best thing about this movie was its final act, which Sonic/Sega fans will appreciate.
Sonic 2 was beautiful to the eyes, but painful to the ears. Wait for Redbox on this one. (Be sure to read agendas)
*There is one post-credit scene that will excite Sonic/Sega fans the most!
morbius (2022)
PG-13 | Fantasy, Mystery & Thriller, Action
Theatrical Release | April 1, 2022

Director: Daniel Espinosa
David’s full REVIEW
6/10
RT SYNOPSIS: One of the most compelling and conflicted characters in Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil -- or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?
RATED: PG-13 | Some Frightening Images, Intense Sequences of Violence, Brief Strong Language
AGENDAS: No woke agendas. The scenes where Dr. Morbius turns into a vampire could be disturbing to kids under 12. The movie was not as demonic as its trailer made it seem. I didn’t feel like my soul was damaged leaving the theater, which was nice.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: No nudity or sexual content!
DAVID’S REVIEW: Ignore the poor critic ratings (18%) on Rotten Tomatoes. Morbius wasn’t THAT bad. Although the film had its flaws, it was mostly enjoyable. You can tell this was a “Sony Marvel film” due to familiar weaknesses we’ve observed in previous Sony Marvel films (plot, execution, flow).
The first half of Morbius had so much potential. The casting, visual effects and acting were great (especially Jared Leto’s performance). However, the film couldn’t quite nail its second half with a less-than-average final act, lazy writing and numerous plot holes. Despite its flaws, it’s worth watching. The soundtrack was great!
Stay after the initial credits for two bonus scenes.
The Lost city (2022)
David’s full REVIEW
7/10
RT SYNOPSIS: Reclusive author Loretta Sage writes about exotic places in her popular adventure novels that feature a handsome cover model named Alan. While on tour promoting her new book with Alan, Loretta gets kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city's lost treasure from her latest story. Determined to prove he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books, Alan sets off to rescue her.
RATED: PG-13 | Suggestive Material, Language, Some Bloody Images, Partial Nudity, Violence
AGENDAS: Only one, quick line about a character’s name being “gender neutral.” Wasn’t enough to distract from the film.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: The partial nudity is a close up shot of Channing Tatum’s butt…and IT IS a CLOSE up. In the same scene, Sandra Bullock makes a vague reference to the size of Tatum’s genitals.
DAVID’S REVIEW: The Lost City was a fun, charming film but it definitely had its faults. Channing Tatum’s charm carried this movie and it showed promised at the beginning. The city wasn’t the only thing that was lost - the film’s plot/writing struggled. The plot and writing was often messy, lazy and I found myself wanting the movie to end about two-thirds into it.
The movie couldn’t decide when to be serious or funny. It left my emotions confused at the conclusion of many scenes. If Tatum wasn’t in this film, it might have not even made the theaters. The Lost City makes for a good date night film, but nothing more. Don’t look for a sequel to this one.
The batman (2022)
David’s full REVIEW
6.5/10
RT SYNOPSIS: Batman ventures into Gotham City's underworld when a sadistic killer leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans become clear, he must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued the metropolis.
RATED: PG-13 | Some Suggestive Material, Drug Content, Strong Disturbing Content, Strong Language, Strong Violent Content
AGENDAS: We counted at least 21 times of using religious profanity including “God,” “Christ,” “Jesus.” There was also a line about “white privileged men.” See nudity/sexual content below.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: One scene where Catwoman is in underwear and her nipple can be seen through her shirt. A brief glimpse of dancer on a pole in club scene.
DAVID’S REVIEW: The latest installment of our favorite, superhero vigilante “The Batman” was a big disappointment. I commend Matt Reeves for taking the risk (I mean how many different ways can you tell the Batman/Bruce Wayne story?), but the movie fell short in many ways. Yes, there were some aspects of the movie I really liked. The film was beautiful. The cinematography and soundtrack were superb. It felt like a newer, more innovative Tim Burton Batman and it separated itself from its predecessors.
So, what went wrong?
First of all, the movie was about 30 minutes too long. The plot wasn’t interesting enough for it to be a 3 hour movie. It was your typical “how far does the corruption go?” type of deal that we’ve seen so many times before. The movie didn’t know what it wanted to be so it errored on the side of seriousness which made you feel “meh” throughout. People in the theater wanted so desperately to cheer or laugh, but the melancholy execution of the plot and characters made it hard to do so.
Poor character development of iconic characters such as Catwoman, Commissioner Gordon and Alfred fell flat and I found myself not really caring about either of them. There’s no excuse for this when you have a Batman franchise with this much history and success. The casting, screenplay, or both could be to blame for this. The Riddler was good, but not even he could overcome the movie’s issues. The fighting scenes were average - at best.
Finally, my biggest issue with the movie was its rendition of Batman/Bruce Wayne. The crime-solving mystery themed plot, not Batman, was the center of the film. Batman felt like a supporting role rather than the star of the show - this should never happen. The Bruce Wayne scenes were awful. Wayne wasn’t the charming, funny, swaggertisitic (yes I just created a new word) Bruce Wayne we’re used to. Who’s to blame for this? Short answer. Reeves. Pattison did a good job in the suit and mastered what he was given. The problem was, the Twilight star wasn’t given much creative room to work with and it felt like a very one-dimensional Batman. Again, I commend Reeves for trying something new, but it just didn’t work. Bruce was whiny, sad and seemed ashamed of himself and his family’s legacy. Bruce showed ONE emotion throughout the movie…depression.
Overall “The Batman” fell short. They tried so hard to set this one apart from the previous Batman films that they forgot about the small details that legends like Christopher Nolan and the team at Marvel Studios seem to understand. Either wait for discount day at the theaters or Redbox this one. 6.5/10

Dog (2022)
David’s full REVIEW
7.7/10
RT SYNOPSIS: DOG is a buddy comedy that follows the misadventures of two former Army Rangers paired against their will on the road trip of a lifetime. Army Ranger Briggs (Channing Tatum) and Lulu (a Belgian Malinois dog) buckle into a 1984 Ford Bronco and race down the Pacific Coast in hopes of making it to a fellow soldier's funeral on time. Along the way, they'll drive each other completely crazy, break a small handful of laws, narrowly evade death, and learn to let down their guards in order to have a fighting chance of finding happiness.
RATED: PG-13 | Language, thematic elements, drug content and some suggestive material
AGENDAS: None to report. Movie actually makes fun of Portland, Oregon and the city’s weirdness. You’ll be pleasantly surprised and might forget you’re watching a Hollywood movie.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: No nudity. There’s a scene where Tatum and two girls almost have a threesome before being interrupted.
DAVID’S REVIEW: “Dog” was a fun, warm film that you’ll enjoy from start to finish. Channing Tatum did a terrific job carrying the energy of the movie. You can tell he enjoyed this role.
The movie did a good job communicating what our veterans, and their families, go through from PTSD, to loneliness, to homelessness (If anything, this is the biggest message you’ll take from the movie). The dog scenes were well executed, however, I didn’t feel the bond between Tatum and Lulu (the dog) as strongly as I would have liked to.
Although this film could be forgettable with its simplistic plot and mediocre payoffs, you’ll have a good time watching it in theaters. There were plenty of laughs. I felt satisfied when it ended. 7.7/10
Jackass Forever (2022)
DAVID’S full REVIEW
6.5/10
RT SYNOPSIS: Celebrating the joy of being back together with your best friends and a perfectly executed shot to the dingdong, the original jackass crew return for another round of hilarious, wildly absurd, and often dangerous displays of comedy with a little help from some exciting new cast.
RATED: R | Graphic Nudity, Dangerous Stunts, Language Throughout, Strong Crude Material
AGENDAS: No political agendas. “Jesus Christ” and “God” were said a few times. Heavy, and we mean HEAVY, male nudity.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: Heavy male genitalia. Close-up view of genitalia and everything in between. No female nudity, but plenty of male nudity and sexual jokes/acts. Opening scene included male penis being disguised as a giant lizard attacking a city - shows semen being shot out of penis.
DAVID’S REVIEW: Leave Grandma and the kids home for this one. Jackass Forever had some of the worst male nudity we’ve ever seen in a movie. Nudity aside, the movie fell flat. Fans of the franchise will most likely enjoy the classic shenanigans of Johnny Knoxville and crew, but newcomers will most likely be in extreme discomfort. The stunts were extreme, but not creative enough. Halfway through the movie, boredom settled in. If you need to see it, wait for Redbox. This movie isn’t worth the theater price.
007: NO TIME TO DIE (2021)
David’s full REVIEW
9.2/10
RT SYNOPSIS: In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
RATED: PG-13 | Sequences of Violence & Action, Brief Strong Language, Some Disturbing Images, Some Suggestive Material
AGENDAS: One of the main characters is revealed as gay, but it’s a very subtle and quick reveal through one line. It’s not enough to distract from the movie, but it makes us aware of the small insertions into Hollywood movies that will eventually lead to more.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: A couple of intense kissing scenes that may not be good for 14 and under. No nudity and only a couple of subtle sexual references - will fly over younger kid’s heads.
DAVID’S REVIEW: No Time To Die was by far one of the franchise’s most emotional, beautifully shot, and well executed film with Daniel Craig (James Bond) giving one of his best performances of his career. There were so many things to love about this movie with the only drawback being its generic plot, which is wildly similar to what’s going on in the world right now with the pandemic (you’ll see a lot of parallels and maybe even curse Fauci’s name out loud in the theater).
Craig owned his final go around as James Bond. You felt connected to him and his emotions and boy what a send off at the end. The new 00 agent, played by Lashana Lynch, was actually quite good as she completely owned the role while paying her respects to Bond. The villain, played by Rami Malek, had depth and purpose. Malek killed it.
The best part of the movie was its cinematography and visuals. You can tell the team behind No Time To Die took their time with every shot with nothing coming off as rushed or sloppy. Definitely one of the most beautiful Bond films to date. Go see it now!
David’s Daniel Craig Bond Film Final Rankings (Best to Worst):
Casino Royale (2006)
No Time To Die (2021)
SkyFall (2012)
Spectre (2015)

VENOM 2: LET THERE BE CARNAGE (2021)
david’s full REVIEW
6/10
RT SYNOPSIS: Journalist Eddie Brock is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake's experiments, Eddie's body merges with the alien Venom -- leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.
RATED: PG-13 | Disturbing Material, Action, Intense Sequences of Violence, Some Strong Language, Suggestive References
AGENDAS: During one scene at a nightclub, a character goes on stage and rants about equality before taking a picture with a flamboyant/feminine male character.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: None to report.
OFA REVIEW: Venom: Let There Be Carnage is a continuation of the story of Eddy Brock (Tom Hardy) and his newfound, harmonious relationship with an alien create name Venom. The plot was extremely shaky in this sequel and ultimately it was the downfall of the film. The ending was predictable and I didn’t seem to care too much for any of the characters or anything else in the movie. The movie is loud and Venom is often hard to understand at times. The overall execution was sloppy leaving us disappointed after having high hopes from the pleasantly surprising first film. Wait for this one to hit the Redbox.
SHANG-CHI: LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS (2021)
david’s full REVIEW
8.8/10
RT SYNOPSIS: Marvel Studios' "Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings" stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi's friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng'er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng.
RATED: PG-13 | Sequences of Violence & Action, Language
AGENDAS: Only a couple of anti-American comments, but they weren’t enough to distract from the movie.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: None to report!
OFA REVIEW: I’ll start with this, this movie BLEW Black Widow (2021) out of the water! Marvel’s latest superhero to hit the big screen, Shang-Chi, was a pleasant surprise and enjoyable ride throughout. The film did follow similar formulas from previous Marvel movies (you’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it), however it incredibly still felt original. The casting was perfect with Simu Liu (Shang-Chi) having a breakout performance.
With every great movie comes a great soundtrack. Shang-Chi did not disappoint in this area. After all, what would Star Wars, Home Alone, and Indiana Jones be without John Williams? In addition to the superb soundtrack, Shang-Chi’s plot was intriguing and genuine, though the movie was a bit too long (could have been about 20 min shorter). The payoff at the end was spectacular, but I did feel like the length of the movie watered it down just a bit.
Shang-Chi is definitely worth emptying out your savings at the theaters. Grab your popcorn, enjoy the Marvel cameos, and be sure to stick around after the credits for TWO post credit scenes!
FREE GUY (2021)
david’s full REVIEW
7/10
RT SYNOPSIS: In "Free Guy," a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story... once he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way... before it is too late.
RATED: PG-13 | Language, Crude/Suggestive References, Strong Fantasy Violence
AGENDAS: The movie is FULL of agendas from a strong anti-2A line, to the “be whoever you want to be” line that most likely referred to the LGBTQ lifestyle, to men bashing/making men look weak, to a white supremacy comment, to young children cussing (I don’t understand why Hollywood thinks this is funny), to characters using the Lord’s name in vein MANY times. There were also a couple of blasphemous comments about Jesus. I would highly advise AGAINST taking your teens or kids to see this one - however, it might just feel like another day at public school for them.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: Tons of sexual references and innuendos that some kids will catch and some won’t. No nudity.
OFA REVIEW: Agendas aside, Free Guy was entertaining enough to keep your eyes on the screen, but not deep enough to make this a memorable film. Free Guy’s plot was creative and probably the best aspect of the movie with the pace of the film being just right. The movie was well casted and it had its funny moments, but the humor did seem forced throughout. Video game enthusiasts will be the only part of the audience who will love and appreciate the film. Now, see agendas below.
THE SUICIDE SQUAD (2021)
david’s full review
7.5/10
SYNOPSIS: The Suicide Squad returns as a group of superhero rejects are teamed together to help save the world and destroy a powerful monster project called Project Starfish. Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark (voiced by Sylvester Stallone), Blackguard, Javelin and the infamous Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) are tasked with the mission which is overseen by none other than Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Does the team have what it takes to complete the mission? Or will their dysfunction get the best of them?
RATED: R | Drug Use, Brief Graphic Nudity, Language Throughout, Some Sexual References, Strong Violence and Gore
AGENDAS: I would not take your kids, teens, wife, mom, grandparents to this movie. It was by far one of the most gory, graphic movies I’ve ever seen. I left the theater with a sense of darkness in my soul. Use your imagination on the different ways to die and I promise this movie covers it. There was also some blasphemous scenes where the Lord’s name in vein were used. Prepared to be desensitized.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: Full frontal of a man’s genitalia, quick glance at a woman’s breasts.
OFA REVIEW: The pervert James Gunn seems to be fully uncanceled as the DC movie universe (Warner Bros.) welcomes the Marvel director/producer to its team. Gunn is best known for his work on popular films like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.
From the start of the movie, you can tell this has a different feel than any of the other DC movies before it. In fact, this is one of the movie’s best attributes. It felt fresh and current. On paper, the cast doesn’t seem like much, but their chemistry on screen fit together very well. This was also one of Idris Elba’s better performances of his career. TSS was entertaining enough to keep your eyes glued to the screen and the plot was slightly above average. The movie’s creativity cinematically was the best I’ve seen in a DC film. Maybe Warner Bros. should steal more talent from Marvel and never let Zack Snyder touch one of their movies again? That all being said, see the “Agendas” section below.
OLD (2021)
david’s full review
4.5/10
SYNOPSIS: M. Night Shyamalan’s latest flick involves a family who goes on a vacation, only to be recommended to a private island that mysteriously makes them age rapidly.
RATED: PG-13 | Disturbing Images, Brief Strong Language, Partial Nudity, Strong Violence, Suggestive Content
AGENDAS: None to report.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: Female’s bare bottom and side breasts are shown.
OFA REVIEW: From arguably the most overrated Hollywood director/producer, M. Night Shyamalan’s newest feature “Old” underwhelmed to say the least. The movie dragged along leaving its audience feeling impatient and begging for the punchlines to be executed. The acting was average by a poorly chosen cast and the plot payoff was crammed in so tight, you feel like it happened in the blink of an eye. Overall, wait for this one to hit the Red Box.
SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY (2021)
david’s full review
7/10
SYNOPSIS: Lebron James takes the keys from Michael Jordan’s 1996 classic Space Jam and attempts to make it his own in the flashy sequel, Space Jam: A New Legacy. James’ son Dom breaks the news to his dad that he isn’t as interested in basketball as James wants him to be which leads to Dom being sucked into the digital world by a sinister AI named Al G. Rhythm (Don Cheadle).
Al G. Rhythm threatens to imprison Dom in the digital world unless Lebron beats his Goon Squad basketball team in the digital world. Lebron must find teammates within the digital world and is led to some unlikely heroes - insert the Tune Squad! Does the new and improved Tune Squad have what it takes to defeat Al G. and his Good Squad?
RATED: PG | Some Language, Some Cartoon Violence
AGENDAS: None really other than a couple of very brief political clips in the beginning that will make you roll your eyes. Don’t worry it doesn’t distract from the movie.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: None.
OFA REVIEW: As much as we all can’t stand Lebron, the movie was solid and worthy of a place next to Michael Jordan’s 1996 classic. Don’t get it mistaken, MJ is still, and always will be, the GOAT.
If you can put aside personal feelings towards Lebron’s ignorance on politics, you’ll find the film rather enjoyable minus the shaky plot. I expected plenty of cringe moments with the acting, but I found the cast’s performance bearable and not distracting. The movie was pretty creative and expanded in areas I wasn’t expecting (you’ll see what I mean when you see it - don’t want to spoil the fun!).
Bugs Bunny and The Looney Tunes were the best thing about the movie. The Tunes were well done and will bring 90s kids plenty of nostalgia. Ignore the RT critic reviews, this one will be enjoyed by kids and adults alike - especially basketball fans and fans of the original Space Jam.
BLACK WIDOW (2021)
david’s full review
6.5/10
SYNOPSIS: Black Widow, or Natasha Romanoff, returns to the big screen as Scarlett Johansson reprises her role in this action packed prequel. Black Widow takes place before Romanoff joined the Avengers. Romanoff is confronted by her rough past including trying to make sense of a shaky family upbringing. When an evil villain, who neurologically controls a mass network of female spies, tries to destroy everything she loves, Natasha is tasked with her biggest mission yet alongside her long lost sister Yelena (Florence Pugh).
RATED: PG-13 | Some Language, Intense Violence, Action, Thematic Material)
AGENDAS: Not much except the usual making men look weaker and less significant than women. It wasn’t enough to be distracting, but if you’re looking for it you’ll notice.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: Other than some minor language, nothing to report!
OFA REVIEW: Ignore Rotten Tomatoes. Black Widow wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great as its RT scores says it was. The action scenes were superb, as expected with the budget of Marvel Studios, but the film’s plot was average at best. I felt myself becoming disinterested throughout the film with lackluster anti-climatic scenes. The humor worked in some areas, but felt forced in most. Overall, I’d wait for this one to hit the Redbox unless you’re a die hard Marvel fan or in need of a date night.
FAST AND FURIOUS 9 (2021)
david’s full REVIEW
7.5/10
SYNOPSIS: Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and company return to the big screen with this fast pace, high action latest installment of the Fast and Furious saga. Dominic’s past catches up to him and he’s forced to face his long lost little brother Jakob (played by John Cena). When the son of an evil dictator threatens to destroy the world through technological warfare, Dominic and co. scramble to save mankind while tying up loose ends.
RATED: PG-13 | Language, Action, Sequences of Violence
AGENDAS: None to report! Pretty clean film!
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: Other than a couple mild comments, none to report!
OFA REVIEW: Fast and Furious 9 was funny, a whole lot of fun and does loyal fans of the franchise a good service. F9 was definitely the most ridiculous, over-the-top movie of the saga with unrealistic stunts and situations. If you can put reality aside, you’ll love the movie. The writing was great as the movie does a good job at filling in the gaps to previous plot holes or backstories of the characters — especially Dominic Toretto’s story. Ignore the movie’s length; there was never a dull moment. The special effects and the action scenes were top notch — although you did notice CGI at times, but it wasn’t too distracting. Lastly, we were pleasantly surprised, especially with this being a Fast and Furious film, that there was no sexuality, nudity or any other hidden agenda. This one is definitely safe to take your teen to. Just use caution if they want to watch the other films.
CRUELLA (2021)
david’s full review
8/10
SYNOPSIS: Cruella is an origin story about one of the most notable villans in Disney history, Cruella de Vil (101 Dalmations). A troubled, genius child Estella (later becomes Cruella and played by Emma Stone) is trying to find her place in the world with fashion being her obsession. Estella is hired by one of the top fashion designers in the city, The Baroness (Emma Thompson), where her dream of working in the fashion industry finally comes true. However, the evil side of Estella (Cruella) has other plans and may find herself in-too-deep with her newfound lifestyle.
RATED: PG-13 | Thematic Elements, Some Violence
AGENDAS: Cruella wreaks of the Disney/Hollywood assault on our youth with the glorifying of alcohol, mischief, evil and promiscuity. The movie is dark and may be a bad example to developing teens (especially young girls). We suggest not bringing your child to this if they’re under 15. The film also featured a feminized drag queen like male. Although the movie was good, it sends a terrible message to young girls.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: None to report.
OFA REVIEW: Putting the agendas aside, Cruella was very enjoyable and is a movie you could watch over and over again. The film’s tone and pace were perfect and there never seemed to be a dull moment. Emma Stone and Emma Thompson were fantastic and the supporting cast were perfectly recruited. The sinister theme of the movie worked well and you’ll find yourself cracking a smile or laughing multiple times. With that being said, see agendas below.
A QUIET PLACE PART II (2021)
david’s full review
7.5/10
SYNOPSIS: After the sad events ending in A Quiet Place (2018), which ended in their father’s/husband’s death,, the Abbott Family is continuing to fight for their survival while attempting to locate other survivors along the way. They’ll soon learn, the creepy monsters aren’t the only living threat they’ll need to worry about.
RATED: PG-13 | Terror, Bloody/Disturbing Images, Violence
AGENDAS: The film seems to slightly go with the current theme in Hollywood and corporate America which is empowering women (which is fine) while making the men take a back seat. It’s nothing to get upset about, but if you’re paying attention to the agendas in our country, it’s not hard to miss and it definitely isn’t distracting enough in the movie thanks to some great acting by Emily Blunt and Millicent Simmonds.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: None to report!
OFA REVIEW: A Quiet Place Part II started out strong, but fell flat with its slower than needed pace and not-too-interesting plot. The acting, however, was superb and it’s what gave this movie any weight. The movie seemed too familiar, like we’ve seen it all before, and didn’t really bring anything new to the table. The plot itself didn’t advance as much as we wanted it to and we were still left with a lot of questions. The intense and horrific feelings of the first movie weren’t as strong either. Overall, it was average. We wouldn’t rush to the theater on this one.
WRATH OF MAN (2021)
david’s full review
6/10
SYNOPSIS: Vengeance is on the menu! Wrath of Man takes us on a wild ride with twists and turns at every corner as mystery man “H” (Jason Statham) is hired on as an armed security guard for a cash trucking business. During a robbery, H surprises his new co-workers with his secret agent like skills and leaves them wondering who he really is and what (or who) he’s really after.
RATED: R | Strong violence throughout, pervasive language and some sexual references
AGENDAS: Slightly dangerous stereotype against veterans, especially ones who served in the Afghanistan/Iraq wars and how they view Muslims. Other than that, nothing else to report!
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: Some sexual references and brief nudity but definitely not too bad compared to other R flicks these days.
OFA REVIEW: Just when you think you’ve seen Jason Statham in just about every action movie and scenario, the actor’s acting skills continues to surprise as he makes Wrath of Man its own film with a darker, more reserved Statham than we’re used to seeing. Although Statham was great in the film, his supporting cast wasn’t so much. The acting was cheesy at times and some of the character seemed like they were casted by Michael Bay in the newest Transformers flick (big movie buffs will understand the reference). Wrath of Man was enjoyable at times, but the execution of the plot was messy and a bit hard to follow at times. Once it all came together, the movie was enjoyable enough to keep your eyes on the screen, but it’s we don’t think it’s good enough to earn your dollars at the box office. Save this one for Redbox.
RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON (2021)
david’s full review
7.5/10
SYNOPSIS: Raya and The Last Dragon takes the audience on a thrilling adventure where Raya, the princess of Kumandra’s heartland, must unite all pieces of the dragon gem to defeat the evil enemy monsters known as the Druun. 500 years prior, the dragons of Kumandra sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now it is up to Raya, and a loyal friend, to save their worlds and unite its people once again.
RATED: PG | Some Violence, Action, Thematic Elements
AGENDAS: Just a hint of a hidden globalist agenda, but not enough to not see it or for your kids to notice.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: None to report.
OFA REVIEW: Raya and The Last Dragon was visually a beautiful movie which was its best quality. However, the overall plot seemed rushed, predictable at times and was not well executed in some areas. Raya herself was a forgettable character, although a couple characters were not. This movie could have been a lot better - especially if it had a musical aspect to it like we’ve come to expect from Disney. I mean, how can you not have singalong songs in the movie like this?!
Towards the end, I didn’t feel a connection to Raya or most of the characters which meant the character development fell short - something you wouldn’t expect from a Disney animated flick. Raya and The Last Dragon, however, was enjoyable enough to give it your time and the kids will definitely enjoy it.
MORTAL KOMBAT (2021)
david’s full review
6/10
SYNOPSIS: Mortal Kombat returns with familiar characters in this reboot of the classic video game and 1995 movie. A younger MMA fighter, Cole Young, is tracked down by Earthrelm’s most deadliest fighters (called champions) who come together to defend Earthrelm from the Outworld champions. Earthrelm’s champions must discover their secret superpowers to have a chance against the Outworld champions, but they need the help of a familiar face - Lord Raiden.
RATED: R | Some Crude References, Language Throughout, Strong Bloody Violence
AGENDAS: None to report other than a demonic feel to the movie. But you had to expect that given the history of the Mortal Kombat franchise. The gory scenes were VERY GRAPHIC - wouldn’t recommend bring kids under 17 to this.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: No nudity, but some sexual and crude language.
OFA REVIEW: Save this one for Redbox. If you’re a lifelong fan and grew up loving the Mortal Kombat franchise, you’ll enjoy the nostalgia of seeing your favorite characters back on the big screen. However, it was hard not to cringe at times throughout the movie with the poor, cheesy acting and subpar CGI. The acting and lazy writing becomes very distracting and noticeable. Although MK fanboys might enjoy the movie, regular movie-goers might not (don’t bring your wife to this, lol). With the high standards for superhero movies these days, this Mortal Kombat installment just doesn’t live up to its trailer’s hype and certainly doesn’t take the franchise to the next level.
TOGETHER TOGETHER (2021)
david’s full review
8/10
SYNOPSIS: Together Together stars Ed Helms (Matt) and Patti Harrison (Anna) who play characters who are complete opposites in life. Anna is hired by Matt to be his gestational surrogate and birth his baby. As the two try to set boundaries in their professional situation, they soon find themselves in an unexpected relationship that neither of them saw coming.
RATED: R | Language, Some Sexual References
AGENDAS: Minor pro-life quib, but nothing to get too upset about. There was moderate LGBTQ characters and references within the movie.
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: No nudity, but definitely some strong sexual references and language. Would not bring kids under 16 to this.
OFA REVIEW: Together Together was a fascinating, well-acted film. The plot and character development kept you laughing and finding yourself not being able to take your eyes off the screen. Patti Harrison and Ed Helms’ chemistry on screen was beautiful and both gave awesome performances - especially Harrison. If you’ve seen the show The Office, Helms’ character was very similar to Andy Bernard, but his character seemed deeper in a way. We would have rated this a 9.0 if it weren’t for the ending - you’ll see what we mean when you watch the film.
GODZILLA VS. KONG (2021)
david’s full review
7/10
SYNOPSIS: Godzilla vs. Kong (GvK) is the third installment in the Godzilla franchise with Godzilla (2014) and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) being the previous two. In GvK, Kong and his keepers leave skull island to find Kong’s true home. In the middle of transit back to the states, Kong and his keepers are met with an unexpected surprise, Godzilla. As Godzilla rages throughout the earth while leaving a trail of destruction, there’s more that meets the eye with the giant reptile. Inevitably, the two alpha monsters face off against one another. Who will be left standing, Kong or Godzilla?
RATED: PG-13 | Destruction, Brief Language, Intense Creature Violence
AGENDAS: Other than CNN being the main news source for the movie, there’s nothing much else to report! We may have yelled out “Fake News” when CNN came on in the theater, but that’s none of your business ;).
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: No nudity or sexual content.
OFA REVIEW: Godzilla vs. Kong was enjoyable enough to bring the family to the theaters, but the plot was clunky and poorly executed. GvK at times was all brawn and no brains - it reminded us of a Zack Snyder DC film. The Kong vs. Godzilla fight scenes were definitely the best part of the movie.
NOBODY (2021)
david’s full review
9/10
SYNOPSIS: Bob Odenkirk, from the hit TV shows Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul, stars in this refreshing action thriller where his character, Hutch Mansell, gets pulled back into a life he left due to an unfortunate series of events. Can Hutch escape back into retirement? Or will his past forever haunt him?
RATED: R | Brief Drug Use, Bloody Images, Language Throughout, Strong Violence
AGENDAS: None to report!
NUDITY/SEXUAL CONTENT: You’ll be refreshed to hear that Nobody includes absolutely no nudity or sexual content. We know, with how much the perverts in Hollywood seem to not be able to help themselves by throwing sex in every scene, we were just as pleasantly surprised. Nobody proves that nudity isn’t necessary for a good flick! Even a flick that’s rated R!
OFA REVIEW: Nobody was produced by David Leitch, who also produced the John Wick series. If you loved John Wick, you’ll love this movie as the plots are very similar, however, Odenkirk’s charm and ease brings a much different flavor to Nobody and it makes for a great time at the movies!
